OWN adds 'Bride' to growing sked

As "The Oprah Winfrey Show" leaves the airwaves, Winfrey's cable channel continues to gear up.

The joint venture with Discovery Communications has greenlit eight episodes of yet another new series, "Don't Tell the Bride," a remake of the U.K. series of the same name.

"Bride" will give eight cash-strapped engaged couples enough money for a dream wedding, with the catch that the groom and his best man must plan the nuptials without the knowledge of the bride.

The show is produced by Shed Media U.S. and based on a format from Renegade Pictures and Digital Rights Group.

It's the net's fifth series pickup since Monday, and it follows this month's exec shakeup at the cabler that saw Discovery Communications chief operating officer Peter Liguori take OWN's reins from former CEO Christina Norman.

Don't Tell the Bride

The series gives eight cash-strapped couples a budget to create the wedding of their dreams. But here's the catch - the bride and groom can't see each other for the month leading up to the nuptials, and the groom has to plan the whole wedding in secret with the help of his best man and the bride knows nothing of the events!
